Fort Vancouver, Washington occasionally puts on demonstrations/re-enactments that are open to the public and free of charge. This particular event was a re-enactment of what occurred at the Fort in September 1846 after an American navy ship, the USS Shark, that had been at the Fort for a month sank in the mouth of the Columbia River. The events depicted at the Fort represent those activities involving mounting a rescue and salvage party.
